Frequently Asked Questions on
Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a natural healing method that uses the hands of a healer to channel
energy to another person through
chakras or energy centers. It has been
practiced for thousands of years. It
was reintroduced in the 1800's by Mikao Usui in Japan
after many years of researching the healing ministries of great healers
including Jesus and the Buddha.
Reiki
(literal translation - Universal Energy), as laid down by Dr. Usui has a simple
set of procedures to follow, which were passed down to each of the Reiki Masters
who follow his teachings, together with
a
simple set of
five Reiki
ideals or precepts
for daily living.
What does a Reiki session involve?
Because Reiki is a Universal energy,
Reiki practitioner, Nancy, is
simply a conduit for the energy. Nancy
channels the Reiki energy and incorporates guided counseling during a session to
help a client achieve profound insights and balance of the mental, physical,
emotional and spiritual aspects of their being. Reiki is experienced
through the hands as a powerful yet unobtrusive flow of healing energy.
It is
important to note that the Reiki energy is not a mind power. It is
spiritual
in nature, and therefore cannot be directed or manipulated in any way. Reiki
by-passes the symptom and goes to the cause of the problem to allow healing.
Reiki works on the assumption that each of us knows more about what is necessary
for our healing than anybody else. Thus Reiki is totally complementary to
any other form of healing or medication being undertaken.
A Reiki session is approximately 50-90
minutes in length. Clients are treated fully clothed, sitting up in a
chair or lying down
on a massage table, whichever is more comfortable. During the session, the Reiki practitioner will gently rest her hands on (or slightly above) various
parts of the body in patterns which include the head, neck, abdomen, arms, legs,
back and feet. The body is touched lightly.
A sensation of warmth from the
practitioner's hands is common. A tingling feeling, deep relaxation, and/or a
peaceful calm are often reported by anyone receiving Reiki. Through a series of
hand positions, slightly on or above the body, practitioners are often able to
sense energy discord and can focus their attention to those areas. There is no
manipulation of the skin or muscle tissue. It is non-invasive and painless.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki has been found to have a calming effect on the body. It can restore
balance to the body. It supports the body's natural ability to heal itself.

of additional benefits.
Throughout its lengthy history, Reiki has been used to help treat
virtually every known illness and/or injury. As well, many
individuals have used Reiki to help overcome unwanted habits,
achieve personal goals, and alleviate stress. Children and
animals
are especially
responsive to this
non-invasive and loving energy. This self-help technique does not require
any system of belief or thought to be activated and can be easily incorporated
as a self-help method to balance our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
bodies.
Reiki channels are not using "their" energy per
se, but are via Reiki, tapped into the universal supply and therefore cannot
become depleted or run down. The energy enters at the crown chakra of the Reiki
practitioner and passes through their arms and hands and into the body receiving
the Reiki. The mind of the Reiki channel should remain
neutral. Reiki brings the body into balance so it can heal itself and the
person who receives Reiki is simply made better physically, mentally and
spiritually.
Can Reiki cure disease?
Reiki is not intended to be a cure. It does however improve the body's natural
ability to heal itself. It should be reinforced that Reiki is not intended to
replace your physician or other health care providers.
Who can receive Reiki energy?
Reiki can be given to all people, as well as animals and plants. It is not
associated with an organized religion, therefore, it is open to all.
How often can I receive Reiki?
Your body only absorbs the healing energy it needs. Therefore, you cannot
receive too much Reiki energy. There is no limit to the number of Reiki
sessions you may have. A customized plan can be discussed after the initial
session if you wish.
Who is qualified to perform Reiki?
Traditional Reiki practitioners are trained under the direction of a Traditional
Reiki Master. Traditional Reiki Practitioners like myself practice using the
same training initiated by Mikao Usui himself. This type of Reiki is often
called Usui Reiki. There are however, other types of Reiki practiced.
Anyone who
has a Level I, II, or III Reiki degree may give Reiki in-person; Level II and
III individuals may also send Reiki remotely (distant healing). Only Reiki
Masters may give attunements to others to allow them the capability to give
Reiki.
